Tanzania · Kilimanjaro
Eight days on the most beautiful route to the Roof of Africa, with extra time to acclimatize and a starlit summit push. Join our group in February 2027 or book it as a private trek any time.
About this trek
At 19,341 ft, Kilimanjaro is the world’s highest free-standing mountain, and the Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic ways up. You start on the quiet western slopes, trek through rainforest where monkeys chatter in the canopy, cross the vast Shira Plateau with snowy Kibo on the horizon, and wander among the giant groundsels of the Senecio Forest.
Along the way you scramble up the famous Barranco Wall and circle the mountain’s southern flank. The extra days on the trail give your body time to adjust to the altitude, which greatly improves your chances of standing on top. Then comes summit night: a starlit climb that rewards you with sunrise over Mawenzi and the triumph of reaching Uhuru Peak.
Private tours

Itinerary
Nine days from arrival in Moshi to your summit certificate.
Your local representative meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel in Moshi. Rest up and get ready to climb the highest peak in Africa. Tonight is your last night in a real bed for a week.
A scenic four-hour drive to Londorossi Gate for park formalities, then boots on at the Lemosho trailhead. Trek through undisturbed montane rainforest, where monkeys and birds call from the canopy, to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp.
Climb out of the rainforest into tall grasses, giant heather and lichen-draped volcanic rock. Cross streams, crest Shira Ridge and catch your first glimpse of snow-capped Kibo from camp.
A full day on the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on earth. Walk across open moorland toward quiet Moir Hut at the foot of the Lent Hills. A gentle acclimatization day with big skies in every direction.
Climb toward the 300-ft Lava Tower, then descend through the otherworldly Senecio Forest of giant groundsels to Barranco Camp at about 13,000 ft. Climb high, sleep low.
Scramble up the nearly 900-ft Great Barranco Wall (steep but non-technical), cross hills and valleys, and drop into Karanga Valley. A shorter day by design, with an afternoon to rest.
Join the Mweka junction and climb to Barafu, completing the Southern Circuit. Both Mawenzi and Kibo rise before you. Early dinner and rest, because tonight you go for the top.
Around midnight, headlamps on, begin the summit push. Near Stella Point (18,900 ft) the sky glows with sunrise over Mawenzi, then on to Uhuru Peak at 19,341 ft. Descend via Barafu to Mweka Camp.
Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate and collect your summit certificate. A vehicle takes you back to your hotel in Moshi for a hot shower and a well-deserved celebration. Karibu tena!
